New Polling Reveals North Carolina Voters Strongly Oppose Cuts to Medical Research Funding

WASHINGTON (July 31, 2025) – Today, United for Cures released new polling that reveals strong, bipartisan support among North Carolina voters for protecting federal funding for medical research.

The statewide poll, conducted by Public Opinion Strategies, surveyed 500 registered voters in North Carolina between June 23 and June 26, 2025.

Key findings include:

  • 93% of voters say it is important for the United States to be a global leader in medical research, with support consistent across party lines, including 91% of Republicans, 96% of Democrats, and 92% of Independents.

  • Nearly three-in-five voters (59%) initially oppose the proposed $20 billion cut to the federal medical research budget, with the vast majority (48%) saying they “strongly oppose” the potential cuts.

  • Cancer research is a top concern, with 60% of voters saying it’s one of the top areas they are most worried about losing progress in.

The findings reveal widespread support among North Carolinians for continued investment in medical research, which plays a critical role in driving new cures and treatments for millions of Americans facing life-threatening diseases.
