United for Cures Commends Senate Appropriators for Prioritizing Medical Research Funding in FY26 Budget

WASHINGTON (July 31, 2025) – United for Cures—a collaborative network of patients, families, and patient advocacy organizations dedicated to protecting life-saving biomedical research—applauds the Senate Committee on Appropriations for taking decisive, bipartisan action to increase federal investment in medical research at the National Institutes of Health by $400 million. This funding is critical and offers hope to the millions of Americans living with life-threatening diseases who are counting on new treatments and, ultimately, cures.

United for Cures issued the following statement in response:

“United for Cures thanks Appropriations Committee Chair Collins and Vice Chair Murray, Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies Chair Capito and Vice Chair Baldwin, and all of the members of the Committee for voting for increased funding for the National Institutes of Health by $400 million—an investment that will lead to more clinical trials, new treatments, and the possibility of cures that can transform lives and save loved ones.

“We also commend the Committee for its bipartisan effort to stop front-loading multi-year research grants. Front-loading would cut the number of studies, which would mean fewer chances to cure diseases.

“We are deeply grateful to those who have elevated the urgency of this issue and the lawmakers who are putting patients first. We urge the House Appropriations Committee to follow the Senate’s lead and prioritize much-needed funding for medical research.”
