United for Cures Urges House Appropriators to Prioritize Medical Research Funding in FY26 Budget

WASHINGTON (September 3, 2025) – United for Cures, a collaborative network of patients, families, and patient advocacy organizations, released the following statement on the U.S. House of Representatives’ Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services (HHS), Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS Subcommittee) funding bill, which was marked up yesterday by the Subcommittee.

“We are encouraged that the Labor-HHS Subcommittee has demonstrated support for the National Institutes of Health and medical research. We urge the full Committee to support these funding levels and ideally align with the higher levels put forward in the Senate as part of any fiscal year 2026 agreement. Any cuts would be devastating to the millions of Americans who depend on this funding to improve treatments, achieve earlier diagnoses, and ultimately find cures for deadly diseases.

“While the Committee is to be commended for funding medical research for new treatments and cures at NIH, without investments across the other HHS agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and Health Resources and Services Administration, the health of our nation will not improve. We urge Congress to fund the full continuum of health for the well-being of all Americans.

“Finally, it is critical that Congress ensures the Administration spends all funds appropriated for our Nation’s health.”
